The mission of the Maintenance & Fabrication (MF) Division is to maintain and operate building systems and facilities, and manufacturer mechanical components and assemblies in support of the Laboratory Science and Operations mission by providing leadership and craft services for all aspects of building and facility maintenance.

Maintenance activities include all mechanical craft services such as plumbing, heating, refrigeration and air conditioning, and insulation; electrical craft services including fire/security alarms; and buildings services including cabinet, carpentry, lock, paint, and sign shop support. Fabrication activities include specialized machine shop, sheet metal, and welding shop operations both in a dedicated facility as well as in the field. The capabilities of the MF Division range from a large Electron Beam Welding facility, to a state of the art cleaning facility, to a large fabricating facility which includes Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Machining, Automatic Tube Welding, and CNC Punch Press capability.

In addition, the Fabrication staff performs inspections on equipment and parts using computerized measuring machines, mechanical, and non-destructive testing (including specialized X-ray services) techniques for Departments, Divisions and Scientific Experiments.
