Washington, DC – John D. (Jay) Rockefeller IV, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, issued the following statement regarding the tragic plane crash late Thursday evening:

“The news of Continental Flight #3407 crashing near Buffalo, NY is terribly tragic.  My heart goes out to all of the passengers and their families during this very difficult time.

“As Chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee, I take aviation safety very seriously.  I am in communication with Transportation Secretary LaHood, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and we are trying to obtain the most updated and accurate information possible to determine what happened and work to address any and all safety issues.”
