Working Groups

The UID Policy Office has established a number of working groups to support the development and implementation of the UID policy.

Information presented for each working group includes meeting materials from the most recent meeting. Selected additional information is also provided. • Industry Leadership Advisory Group (ILAG) (Status: active)
  This group was organized at the suggestion of the DoD UID Policy Office to serve as a defense industry focal point for government-industry collaboration and coordination in developing UID implementation policy and procedures. The ILAG, which is sponsored by the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), currently serves as the principal structure for strategic level collective industry input to the UID Program Office for UID implementation policy and procedures.
• ISO 10303 STEP AP 239 PLCS
  The purpose of this meeting was to bring together stakeholders of the PLCS data exchange standard to share implementation experience, lessons learned, and identify additional opportunities to explore the use of the PLCS standard within the maintenance community.
• WAWF/UID/RFID Industry Users Group (Status: active)
  This group was formerly the Wide Area Work Flow (WAWF) Users Group, and has been expanded to include IUID and RFID users. The group is co-sponsored by AIA and DCMA. The purpose of this group is for the user community within industry to communicate issues and questions to DoD regarding WAWF, Item UID, and RFID. This group is focused on tactical aspects of implementation for these initiatives. The group will meet 3-4 times per year.
• Property Management Working Group (PMWG)
  The purpose of this working group is to explore the integrated data environment related to property management and IUID through the item life cycle. The focus is on the processes and data sets associated with property transfers, and identification of the issues and challenges towards moving towards paperless property management flow.
• Joint Aeronautical Commanders Group (JACG)
  The Joint Aeronautical Commanders Group (JACG) has encouraged the UID Policy Office to explore the multiple issues associated with IUID that impact aeronautical operations across the services. Issues to date include Single Process Initiatives, changed to technical documentation, and the legacy data environment.
• Government Furnished Property Industry Group (GFP) (Status: active)
  This group has focused on the issues associated with assigning IUIDs to equipment and property that is owned by the government but in a contractor's possession.
• Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) (Status: active)
  This effort has been focused on revising the FAR in terms of Property Management.
• Business Rules (Status: inactive)
  This working group focused on the development of the business rules for item marking. The business rules associated with IUID are presented in the most current version of the DoD Guide to Uniquely Identifying ItemsUID.
• Standards (Status: inactive)
  This working group focused on the development of the IUID collaborative solution, including the development of the New Work Item Proposal to ISO.
• Implementation Working Group (IWG) (Status: inactive)
  This group focused on identifying issues with implementing UID. During the early stages of developing the UID policy, this group served as a communication vehicle to solicit and disseminate information from a variety of stakeholders.
• Technical Interface Working Group (TIWG) (Status: inactive)
  This group focused on the development of the data elements that would go into the registry.
• IUID Quality Assurance Working Group (IUID QAWG)
  Purpose of this group is to: 1) Identify and address the issues causing UII marking, IUID Registration deficiencies, and other data exchange problems 2) Expose and leverage the value of IUID to "connect" data from existing and future quality reporting systems (e.g., PQDR, SDR, warranties) The work of this group is collaborative and involves review and investigation among DoD stakeholders involved throughout the lifecycle of a uniquely identified item.
