The Federal Activities
Inventory Reform Act of 1998 (FAIR Act) requires that all Federal agencies
prepare
and submit an inventory of non-inherently governmental activities (also
referred to as "commercial activities") to the Office of Management
and Budget (OMB). In accordance with OMB Circular A-76 (Revised), the
Department is also required to submit an inventory of inherently governmental
(IG)
activities to OMB. To create the Defense Department's inventories, the
Office of the
Secretary of Defense (OSD), with cooperation from the military services,
defense agencies, and field activities, prepared the 2007 FAIR Act and inherently
governmental submissions using its recently completed 2006 Inventory
of Commercial and Inherently Governmental Activities. The FAIRNET web
site
was created to provide a mechanism for the public to query separately
the DoD FAIR Act or the inherently governmental submissions.
