Legislator Ray Walter and his wife, Jennifer decided to build their lives here in Western New York after graduating from SUNY Geneseo. They currently live in East Amherst with their two sons, Ray, who is eight-years old and Jack, who is one and a half. For nearly ten years, Ray built a successful career as a manager at local auto dealers before making the decision to go back to school and pursue a law degree at the University at Buffalo.

During Ray's time in law school he was very active, serving as a representative to the Student Bar Association, and as President of the local chapter of the Federalist Society. Ray also clerked for the United States Attorney's Office, the Erie County District Attorney's Office and for an area law firm, after serving as a research assistant for the Erie County Charter Revision Commission. He graduated magna cum laude, passed the bar exam, was admitted to practice and has worked for Magavern Magavern Grimm LLP since 2007.

Ray is an active participant in numerous civic and charitable organizations, including the Amherst Senior Citizens Foundation Board and the Bar Association of Erie County. Ray previously served on the Amherst Traffic Safety Board, the Erie County Cultural Resources Advisory Board, and as Treasurer of the Amherst Republican Committee.

Much of Ray's family time is spent going to his oldest son's Lou Gehrig Little League games and Amherst Soccer Association games. This past winter he served as an assistant coach for his son's Upward Basketball team at the Clarence United Church of Christ.

In the County Legislature, Ray serves on the Health and Human Services Committee and the Government Affairs Committee. These committees enable Ray to use his experience as an attorney and his desire to change the way our government operates to their fullest potential. His goals are to help create efficient and effective means of delivering government services to those who need it the most and to transform the way Erie County Government operates by instituting term limits on all elected officials, cutting the size of the legislature and reducing legislator's salaries to create true "cititzen legislators" and not career politicians.
