National Landscape Conservation System

The National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) denotes BLM lands with exceptional qualities. They have been designated as National Monuments; National Scenic and Historical Trails; Forest Reserves; Wild and Scenic Rivers; Wilderness; and Areas for Wilderness Study, Cooperative Management and Protection, National Conservation, National Recreation, and Outstanding Natural Areas. The NLCS focuses on the opportunities and management needs of these treasured landscapes.
