HR Executives Meet with Procurement Executives to discuss Direct Hiring Authority Initiative

On Thursday, May 14, 2009, the Senior Procurement Executive held a forum between HR and Procurement Executives from Components interested in obtaining the Direct Hiring Authority (DHA) to discuss what information is required to obtain DHA and whether there is sufficient justification to support this initiative based on the severe shortage of qualified candidates. The Procurement Executives discussed the lack of ability to recruit and retain qualified applicants for their vacant positions due to competition from surrounding federal agencies that have the budget to offer tuition assistance and/or reimbursement, higher grade structures, and other incentives. As a result of this meeting, the Department is proposing an Intern Program to recruit and train individuals to meet the Department’s mission. The next meeting is scheduled for June 4, 2009 at Main Justice in conference room 1103 beginning at 2:00 p.m. to continue the discussion.
