FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning H. P. Westbrooks--P894219

7/30/97

The Honorable Ms. Mary Azcuenaga
Chairperson
Federal Trade Commission
Washington D.C. 20580

Dear Madam Chairwomen;

Proposed changes by the F.T.C., that define standards of "Made in the U.S.A." labeling are the focus of this commentary. I, as a conscientious consumer and manufacturing employee, am, a staunch supporter of House Concurrent Resolution # 80.

Over the past 50 yr.s, the "Made in the U.S.A." label has been a distinct icon of integrity, quality and meaningfull employment in the U.S.. Futhermore symbolising product standards of 98% domestic labor and materials. The devaluation of said criterion by any percentage, is a superficial approach for U.S. marketers to address global competition. Viable alternatives remain, without eroding key elements of U.S. economic successes.

I urge the Federal Trade Commission, a federal protective, to remain from altering the "Made in the U.S.A." label as prescribed by H. Con. Res. 80.

Thank You,

H. P. Westbrooks
