This shock struck west-central Nevada. Damage was slight, due to few inhabitants, but
the shock was felt all over Nevada and as far as Salt Lake City, San Francisco, and

The shock caused one death and several injuries,
and inflicted severe property damage at Quillagua and
Tocopilla, two small villages near the earthquake's
epicenter. Eighty percent of the structures
were destroyed at Quillagua; Tocopilla sustained
damage to about 20 percent of its buildings.
Numerous roads were damaged or blocked by earthslides in the area.
