The term seismic seiche was first coined by Anders Kvale in 1955, to describe oscillation of lake levels in Norway and England caused by the Assam earthquake of August, 1950.

Epicenter
6.4 The earthquake was centered about 250 kilometers south-southeast of Kibombo. At least eight people were killed, 37 were injured and several buildings were destroyed at Kibombo. The earthquake was also felt at Bujumbura, Burundi.
