The term seismic seiche was first coined by Anders Kvale in 1955, to describe oscillation of lake levels in Norway and England caused by the Assam earthquake of August, 1950.

6.9 Two events about 2.5 seconds apart. Twenty-three people killed, 181 injured, at least 5,400 left homeless and about 1,150 buildings destroyed at Kalabahi, Alor. Estimated 7.7 million U.S. dollars damage occurred in the epicentral area. Felt at Dili.
