The term seismic seiche was first coined by Anders Kvale in 1955, to describe oscillation of lake levels in Norway and England caused by the Assam earthquake of August, 1950.

Epicenter
6.7 The earthquake killed 30 people, injured 82, and destroyed 121 homes. The tremor also caused road damage and landslides. Approximately 1,510 houses were damaged. All damage and fatalities occurred on the Izu Peninsula.
