The term seismic seiche was first coined by Anders Kvale in 1955, to describe oscillation of lake levels in Norway and England caused by the Assam earthquake of August, 1950.

6.0 420 killed, 3,000 injured, and $20 million property damage at Kourdeh and Lar. Damage at Latifi, Khur, Beraq, and Gerash.

1984 Morgan Hill, California

Epicenter
6.1 Twenty-one people sustained minor injuries in the Morgan Hill-San Jose area. Maximum intensity VII in the Morgan Hill area. Damage from the earthquake estimated at 7.5 million dollars with the most damage occurring in the Jackson Oaks subdivision east of Morgan Hill. The earthquake was felt from Bakersfield to Sacramento and from San Francisco to Reno.

1985 Luzon, Philippine Islands

6.1 Six people killed, 11 injured and damage (VII RF) and landslides in Benguet Province. Some damage (VII RF) at Baguio. Felt (IV RF) at Carmen, Pangasian and d Santa; (III RF) at Baler, Dagupan and Manila and (II RF) at Quezon City.
