The University of Alaska Fairbanks has appointed David Christie as the director of the Alaska Sea Grant College Program.
AKCRRAB researchers are supplementing crab diets with astaxanthin to give the shell a darker red color, and separating crabs by size to decrease predation on one another. The long-term goal is to rehabilitate some king crab fisheries in Alaska. Look for monthly AKCRRAB updates in the News Flash newsletter.
The Alaska Sea Grant Marine Advisory Program has released a series of nine videos on improving salmon quality. The videos were produced with gillnet fishermen in mind, but much of the information will be valuable to all gear types.
Alaska Sea Grant and the Marine Advisory Program are now on YouTube, where clips can be viewed of many of our award-winning videos and DVDs on subjects ranging from seafood quality and sea safety to beach walking, marine debris and crab research.
