FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Gary Gunderson--P894219

July 20, 1997

To Secretary Donald Clark:

I have read that the FTC is considering changing the meaning behind the Made in the USA label so that it could mean, not entirely made in the USA.

I believe the word was “substantially” made in the USA to qualify for the label. The word “substantially” is open to interpretation as to what percentage of a product was really produced in this country.

It is my opinion that there are too many half-truths now in industry and advertising, and I would request that the meaning of the label remain 100% made in the USA.

Respectfully

Gary Gunderson
