The critical need here is the reduction and early detection of identity theft and credit card fraud. I believe consumers have the right to view their personal records that are gathered and maintained by all the credit bureaus. The first request should be at no cost and annual requests thereafter at a fee no larger than $5.00. The credit bureaus draw significant revenues from business inquiries and from the header information and demographic data they sell to companies for solicitation purposes. Do consider giving private citizens this benefit to encourage accurate tracking of their credit history AND timely alert of fraudulent use of their information.
