EPA's National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL) is comprised of several divisions with diversified research specialties. NERL conducts research and development that leads to improved methods, measurements and models to assess and predict exposures of humans and ecosystems to harmful pollutants and other conditions in air, water, soil, and food.
The Office of Research and Development (ORD) seeks to recruit senior scientists to hold supervisory management and research leadership positions as Division Directors in the National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL). These openings are in the Microbiological and Chemical Exposure Assessment Research Division (MCEARD), the Ecosystems Research Division (ERD), and the Environmental Sciences Division (ESD). Researchers Mitch Kostich, Ph.D., and Jim Lazorchak, Ph.D., have developed and applied new methods that allow EPA to estimate the effects of pharmaceuticals on aquatic life. Microbiological & Chemical Exposure Assessment - Conducts research to measure, characterize and predict the exposure of humans to chemical and microbial hazards. This research provides information on environmental pathways by which hazardous contaminants are transported via air, water, food, and soil to populations at risk.
