On December 23, 1864, the Union Army under the command of General
William Tecumseh Sherman occupied and captured Savannah. Artist
William Waud captured Sherman reviewing his army in Savannah before
moving on to his next campaigns in South Carolina and North Carolina.
Like his brother Alfred, William was recognized as one of the great
sketch artists of the Civil War period.
