FORENSIC
INVESTIGATION SECTION
The
Forensic Investigation Section is staffed by eight full-time investigators.
The investigators respond to murders, questionable deaths, rapes,
robberies, "hot prowl" and fetish burglaries, fatal traffic
accidents, airplane crashes, and serial crimes.
This
section provides crime scene processing services to include: photography,
diagramming, evidence collection, latent print processing, crime
scene analysis, grave site processing and body recovery and footwear,
tool mark, and tire impression collection and analysis. It also
provides in-house, latent print processing of evidence items submitted
to the laboratory.
All
prints developed by the investigators are submitted to the Latent
Print Unit for comparison and possible entry into the Automated
Fingerprint Identification System. This system is connected to eight
western states: Alaska, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon,
Washington, and Wyoming. The section has its own photo laboratory
that consists of "one-hour" equipment and a black and
white photography section. The Forensic Investigation Section is
available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
