Inter-Institute Program for the Development of AIDS-Related Therapeutics
Summary: The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the National Cancer Institute, through the Inter-Institute Program for the Development of AIDS-Related Therapies (IIP), are jointly inviting investigators to submit proposals for this drug development program. Applicants selected for the program do not receive grants. Instead, they receive IIP drug development assistance to carry out specific tasks they otherwise would not be able to carry out to translate basic research into clinical practice. The purpose of IIP is to assist AIDS researchers in the preclinical development of therapies for:
- the treatment of HIV disease, AIDS-associated malignancies, opportunistic infections and tuberculosis associated with AIDS
- microbicide-based HIV prevention strategies
Here are some examples of tasks that could apply:
- High Throughput Screen assay development
- Evaluation in animal efficacy models
- Good Manufacturing Practice scale-up synthesis of small molecules and biologics, clinical dosage formulation and manufacturing, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) toxicology
Deadlines: Applications due by December 1, 2003, and a letter of intent should be submitted by November 1, 2003.
