The 87' Coastal Patrol Boat (CPB) acquisition was developed to replace the aging fleet of 82' Point Class cutters and improve mission performance in the areas of Search and Rescue, Enforcement of Laws and Treaties, Marine Environmental Protection and Port Security and Safety. Reef Shark, commissioned on March 23, is the final CPB to be commissioned in Coast Guard Service. The project also has delivered two of a total of four boats for the U.S. Navy and two Republic of Malta CPBs (sold through the Acquisition Directorate's Foreign Military Sales program).
I had the recent opportunity to visit Bollinger Shipyards in Lockport, Louisiana. The reason for my visit was to celebrate the pending delivery of the 75th Coastal Patrol Boat (CPB), SEA FOX, and the completion of the successful 87-foot Marine Protector-class CPB project.
