SURVEY DEPARTMENT

CST

Chief Survey Technician (CST) - Philip White

Though Phil grew up in the mountains of North Carolina, he found a love of boats and water at 15 in the San Francisco Bay area. After serving on a Coast Guard ice breaker as a Marine Science Technician, Phil studied Oceanography at Humboldt State University in foggy Northern California. His short attention span and aversion to poverty necessitated long absences from school working off and on for NOAA on the Miller Freeman, Whiting, Townsend Cromwell, McArthur, and the Oscar Elton Sette. After finally getting his BS in Oceanography he went back to the Oscar Elton Sette before coming home to the Miller Freeman in 2006. Phil is drawn to cleverly designed gadgets, precision machining, crisp optics, fancy stereo equipment and is usually the last one to leave the party.

ST

Survey Technician (ST) - Tayler Wilkins, Hometown: Seattle, WA

Tayler graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle and after a short stint coaching (gymnastics and track) she began sailing with NOAA in 2006. Before joining the Miller Freeman she worked a board the Thomas Jefferson doing Hydrographic charting. She is excited to be working on a fisheries vessel, seeing all the creatures of the deep. In her off time she enjoys all things red and outdoor activities. She however does not enjoy writing in the third person.
