Terrence Howard

“Behind the Scenes” Web Exclusive!

Terrence Howard: Oh wow. Up to her very last day, she had no idea she was dying. She didn't want anybody to know she was sick. I didn't know how sick she was until I came and I saw her, and she was that thin. I wish that I didn't know anything about colon cancer. I wish I wasn't personally affected by it. I wish... Maybe if there was a PSA like this 20 years ago, my mom would still be here. I think it would have been better if she had been told that most people die from cancer because it's discovered too late. Get tested, you never really know how important somebody is until they're not there anymore.

“This Is Personal”

(:60) (SWF-4.5MB)
Terrence Howard: She was the cornerstone of our family... She shaped me as an actor, as a musician, as a human being. So when my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer, it was like our whole family got cancer. And she died when she was only 56. So this is personal. And hopefully, my heartbreak is your wake-up call. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer, but you can prevent this disease. Screening finds precancerous polyps so they can be removed before they turn into cancer. I've been screened. If you think that you're at increased risk like I am, ask your doctor when to start screening. And if you're 50 or older, please, get screened. I'd do anything to have my mother here. Please do all you can to stay around for yourself and for your family. Screening saves lives.

“The Screening”

Jimmy Smits: The screenings that happen here might be fun or dramatic. But it's not real life. There's a screening that is real life—and it could save your life. It's a screening test for colorectal cancer, the second leading cancer killer of men and women. But this is one cancer you can prevent. Screening finds precancerous polyps, so they can be removed before they turn into cancer. I got screened. Now it's your turn. So you can stick around and enjoy the show.

Announcer: If you're 50 or older, talk to your doctor and get screened for colorectal cancer.

Jimmy Smits: The most important screening isn't the one that happens here. It's screening for colorectal cancer, the second leading cancer killer. Having a screening test is the best way to prevent this disease. That's right, you can prevent it. I got screened. Now it's your turn.

“La Vida Real”

(:30) (RM-1.7MB)

Diane Keaton: It's impossible to replace anybody that you love. She was my great role model, my Grammy Keaton. I aspired to be a lady like her. It was pretty much of a shock for us when she got colon cancer. We were... none of us were prepared for that. Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer of men and women over the age of 50. And you know what? This is one that you can prevent! You know, it's kind of hard to get your mind around the fact that you are 60 years old. I'm 60 years old! I've had, you know, an amazing, amazing experience just being alive. I love life. Every minute is astonishing. It's a huge gift to be here. Just get screened, okay? Trust me, it's okay. I'm going to do everything possible to stay alive as long as I can. Obviously, in good health. In good health. And I think we can all do this. You can do it, I can do it. If I can do it, you can do it, okay? How's that for a deal?
