Code Enforcement

code violationThe mission of the Code Enforcement Division is to regulate the occupancy level and maintenance of all residential structures within the City in order to safeguard life, health, property and public welfare.

This Division enforces the Uniform Residential Code to ensure the dwelling units in the City are decent, safe and sanitary. To accomplish this goal, the Division works with tenants and concerned neighborhood associations, and also accepts referrals from other agencies.

Code Enforcement is located on the 5th floor of Plaza del Sol. This Division also plays a major role in the Mayor's Nuisance Abatement Task Force.

Housing Advisory and Appeals Committee (HAAC)

Directional bandit sign usage in the City's right of ways is illegal. The City has increased the fine associated with bandit signs to $500.00 per sign, per day. Housing Advisory and Appeals Committee (HAAC)

The Housing Advisory and Appeals Committee provides the final interpretation of the provisions of the Uniform Housing Code and hears appeals related to this code, Section 14-3-5-2.The seven member committee also acts as an advisory body to the Department of Human Services in the administration and enforcement of the Uniform Housing Code and provides other functions that may be provided for elsewhere.

By ordinance, the committee consists of representatives and alternates from the Departments of Finance and Management, Planning, Legal and the Mayor’s Office.The Mayor also appoints two representatives from the recognized neighborhood associations and the building industry to represent their interests.

Agendas and Actions

The HAAC conduct their public hearings on the second Tuesday of each month, if an appeal has been scheduled, in the Plaza del Sol hearing room at 600 2nd Street NW in downtown Albuquerque. Hearings generally begin at 2:00 p.m. and conclude when adjourned by the HAAC Chair.
