The Promotion Year is 01 July through 30 June of the following year.

Promotion to O-6

Current Status: Regular, Permanent CDR

Number of times non-selected for O-6	Years of Active Service at Non-Selection	Status
1	Any	Remain on Active Duty and be considered for CAPT next promotion year as an above zone candidate.
2 or More	Over 20	Mandatory retirement on 30 June of the promotion year of the 2nd non-selection unless selected for continuation or on a continuation contract that extends beyond 30 June.
2 or More	Less than 20	Remain on active duty until the last day of the month you reach 20 years of serving and retire. You will be considered by subsequent CAPT promotion boards as an above zone candidate. If selected for promotion or continuation, retirement is no longer mandatory.

Promotion to O-5

Current Status: Regular, Permanent LCDR

Number of times non-selected for O-5	Years of Active Service at Non-Selection	Status
1	Any	Remain on Active Duty and be considered for CDR next promotion year as an above zone candidate.
2 or More	Over 20	Mandatory retirement on 30 June of the promotion year of the 2nd non-selection unless selected for continuation or on a continuation contract that extends beyond 30 June.
2 or More	Less than 20	Remain on active duty until the last day of the month you reach 20 years of serving and retire. You will be considered by subsequent LCDR promotion boards as an above zone candidate. If selected for promotion or continuation, retirement is no longer mandatory.

Current Status: Regular, Temporary LCDR (Permanent Enlisted or CWO)

Number of times non-selected for O-5	Years of Active Service at Non-Selection	Status
1	Less then 30	Remain on Active Duty and be considered for CDR next promotion year as an above zone candidate.
1	Over 30	Mandatory retirement on the last day of the month that you reach 60 days beyond 30 years of active service (unless granted permission to remain on active duty beyond 30 years of active service).
2 or More	Over 30	Mandatory retirement on the last day of the month that you reach 60 days beyond 30 years of active service (unless granted permission to remain on active duty beyond 30 years of active service).
	Over 20	Mandatory retirement on 30 June of the promotion year of the 2nd non-selection.
	Over 18 but less than 20	Remain on active duty until the last day of the month you reach 20 years of serving and retire. You will be considered by subsequent LCDR promotion boards as an above zone candidate. If selected, retirement is no longer mandatory.
	Less than 18	Mandatory discharge on 30 June of the promotion year of the 2nd non-selection unless you request discharge at an earlier date. Member may request to revert to their permanent rank and continue serving.

Promotion to O-4

Current Status: Regular, Permanent LT

Number of times non-selected for O-4	Years of Active Service at Non-Selection	Status
1	Any	Remain on Active Duty and be considered for LCDR next promotion year as an above zone candidate.
2 or More	Over 20	Mandatory retirement on 30 June of the promotion year of the 2nd non-selection unless you request (and are eligible) for retirement at an earlier date
	Over 18 but less than 20.	Remain on active duty until the last day of the month you reach 20 years of serving and retire. You will be considered by subsequent LCDR promotion boards as an above zone candidate. If selected, retirement is no longer mandatory.
	Less than 18	If not selected for continuation, mandatory discharge on 30 June of the promotion year of the 2nd non-selection unless you request discharge at an earlier date. If selected for continuation, finish out the continuation contract and be considered by subsequent LCDR promotion boards as an above zone candidate. If selected for promotion, discharge or extension is no longer mandatory.
