Checking and Corrective Action
These processes verify the effectiveness of the EMS and corrective action measures. Results are reported quarterly to TVA management.
Performance monitoring and reporting
- Monitors, measures, analyzes, and reports on environmental activities and operations.
- Provides a systematic collection of environmental performance information, including the Environmental Impact Index, and regular reporting to management.
- Assigns corrective actions for performance deficiencies and closure tracking.
- Ensures that TVA openly communicates environmental performance information to regulators and Valley residents on an annual basis. See Environmental Reports.
Corrective and preventive action
- Governs how TVA manages, investigates, corrects, and prevents environmental deficiencies.
- Provides for TVA-wide trend analysis and reporting, and identification of generic issues.
Records management
- Relies on TVA’s Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) as the primary means of environmental records storage and retrieval.
- Uses an Environmental Records Matrix to standardize identification of document types, retention times, storage media and locations, ownership of records, and protection requirements.
- Provides efficient and effective access to records.
Environmental auditing
- Evaluates compliance and EMS effectiveness at the TVA organizational and facility levels.
- Uses detailed auditing procedures based on industry standards to ensure that audits are comprehensive, systematic, consistent, objective, and independent.
