Colonel Kevin Batule was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Field
Artillery upon graduation from the United States Military Academy in 1983. His first assignment was with the 1st Battalion,
37th Field Artillery, 172nd Light Infantry Brigade in Alaska, where he served as a Company Fire Support Officer, Battery
Fire Direction Officer and Battery Executive Officer. When the unit inactivated and formed the HQ of a new battalion,
he served as the battalion S3. He subsequently served with the 9th Infantry Division Artillery (Motorized) at Ft.
Lewis, Washington, completing a tour on staff as a Fire Direction Officer and Firing Battery Commander of a nuclear-capable
towed 155mm battery. He instructed Gunnery for two years at the Field Artillery School, and served as Aide de Camp
to the Chief of Field Artillery. In 1995, he was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Ft. Campbell,
Kentucky where he served as an Assistant Fire Support Coordinator, Brigade Fire Support Officer, Battalion S3, and
a Battalion Executive Officer, initially with DIVARTY Headquarters, then with 2nd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery.
He later performed duties as an assignment officer in the Field Artillery Branch, U.S. Total Army Personnel Command.
He subsequently commanded 2nd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) from 2001-2003,
which deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom and conducted combat operations in Najaf, Karbala, and Hillah followed
by stability & security operations in Mosul, Iraq. He then served a joint tour as staff officer in the U.S. Pacific
Command from 2003-2005.
He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.
Prior to assuming duties as Commander of the 30th Field Artillery Regiment, Col Batule was a National Security fellow
at the JFK School of Government, Harvard University.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Army
Meritorious Service Medal (w/4OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (W/OLC) the Army Achievement Medal (W/OLC), the Military
Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge and
the Air Assault Badge.
