Construction Begins on World-Class Light Source at Brookhaven National Laboratory

Brookhaven National Laboratory announced that it is beginning construction of the conventional facilities at the National Synchrotron Light Source II, a project that will advance energy research for the nation and create hundreds of jobs for Long Island over the next several years.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu has announced $6 billion in new funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to accelerate environmental cleanup work and create thousands of jobs across 12 states - including a major investment in New York. Projects identified for funding will focus on accelerating cleanup of soil and groundwater, transportation and disposal of waste, and cleaning and demolishing former weapons complex facilities.

Korea University President Visits U.S. National Laboratory

Professor Ki-Su Lee, President of Korea University, visited Brookhaven on May 13. Professor Lee came to Brookhaven Lab, a premier science research center, to get a first-hand look at PHENIX, a massive detector used for physics experiments on the early universe.
