REHABILITATION CENTER - means a health institution licensed as a hospital for the purpose of providing rehabilitation and restorative treatment of patients who, upon admission, are not then diagnosed as requiring the intensive service of a general hospital. To prevent confusion between a general hospital and a facility licensed hereunder, such facility in all public representations shall be designated, and it shall designate itself, as a Rehabilitation Center. Such center shall primarily be engaged in providing facilities, and adequate competent personnel, by or under the supervision of physicians to in-patients, or to both in-patients and out-patients, services for the treatment and rehabilitation of injured, disabled or sick persons and shall maintain clinical records on all patients. It shall have by-laws in effect with respect to its staff of physicians, have a requirement that every patient be under the care of a physician, provide for 24-hour nursing services rendered or supervised by a registered professional nurse on duty at all times and have in effect a hospital utilization review plan. Such type of facility shall maintain an integrated program of medical evaluation and treatment supported by psychological, social, and vocational evaluation and services. It may be an organized unit of a general hospital, or a facility operated separately under an affiliation agreement with a general hospital.
Businesses must apply for facility license BEFORE accepting patients License: $30 yearly.
The Division, under the direction of the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), also determines eligibility of the facility for Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement certification. Contact HFD for further information is you wish your facility to be eligible.
