Representative Henry A. Waxman 30th District of California

Judiciary - Gay Rights

Representative Waxman has fought hard his entire Congressional career to protect the rights of gays and lesbians. As a vice chair of the Congressional LGBT Equality Caucus, he is working to repeal the so-called “Defense Of Marriage Act;” prohibit employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation; expand the definition of a hate crime to include crimes motivated by sexual orientation; permit citizens to file immigration petitions for and share employment benefits with their permanent partners; and allow gay soldiers to serve openly in the military. Representative Waxman was also the lead author of the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act and has been a driving force in Congressional efforts to combat HIV/AIDS in the U.S. and abroad.
