Region 2 staff look forward to assisting our grantees to develop and complete transit projects that enhance the quality of life in their communities.
Profile
The FTA Region 2 Office serves the states of New York, New Jersey, and the commuter rail operations in Connecticut between New Haven and New York City. The Region 2 Office is located in lower Manhattan and has a total staff complement of about 20 professional full time employees. The Region 2 Office also houses the New York City Metropolitan Office, which is comprised of staff from FTA and its sister agency, the Federal Highway Administration – New York Division Office, and is designed to facilitate direct federal assistance to transportation projects in New York City. Another FTA office, the Lower Manhattan Recovery Office, was established in 2002 to carry out the rebuilding and enhancement of public transit system facilities in lower Manhattan in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center.
The Region 2 Office manages a portfolio of about 45 grantees with more than 350 active projects representing a net federal investment of approximately $11.5 billion. This funding has aided in planning, developing, and sustaining a variety of transportation projects throughout the region. Region 2's goals are to provide unparalleled customer service to grantees as well as the public, and to ensure that awarded grant funds ultimately enhance the operations, safety, and security of transit systems for their users by providing operationally safe equipment and facilities.
