Erie County Senior Services Offers Help Enrolling in Medicare Prescription Drug Plan

Personal Counseling Sessions, Web Site Support, and Telephone Help at No Charge

Many people are confused about their options regarding Medicare Prescription Plans, but Erie County Department of Senior Services offers free and objective assistance. Since Part D was rolled out a few years ago, Senior Services has helped over 9,000 seniors with information about Medicare drug plans.

Bill Daniels, Outreach Coordinator with Senior Services' Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program reminds people that "Couples with resources as high as $23,970 may qualify for some additional help. We know that a lot of seniors don't have access to computers and some need extra help understanding drug plan choices, and that is who we can help. There are changes in the new Medicare Prescription Drug Program every year, and seniors should examine all their options, especially seniors that may qualify for extra help with drug costs. Anybody who might be struggling over the decision of whether to get the medicine they need or pay some other bill needs to call us at 858-7883– we will do our utmost to help." Because Senior Services do not sell insurance plans, they are able to offer unbiased information about all available choices, including New York State EPIC and other local plans.

Erie County Senior Services hosts group sessions; provide web/tech support for seniors seeking information; offers one-on-one individualized sessions to help seniors enroll; and distributes materials so people may compare the local plans. Anyone with questions about Medicare Part D, the low-income subsidy, or other health insurances may call 858-7883 during business hours.
