New Procedure For Dropping Pets Off at Eastside Animal Shelter

Don’t Let Construction Fool You! The Eastside Animal Shelter is Still Open for Business!

The animal drop-off for Animal Welfare’s Eastside Shelter at 8920 Lomas Blvd. NE has now been moved to the small outbuilding on the Northwest side of the parking lot (the building that once was a distribution center for plastic recycle bags). From now on, until completion of construction scheduled for Spring 2010, all animals surrendered to the Eastside Shelter can be dropped off there, 7 days a week, from 9:30am to 6pm. Drop off outside of these hours will now be handled by calling 311, and an animal control officer will be dispatched to your location.  At the Westside shelter at 11800 Sunset Gardens SW, animals can still be dropped off between 6am and 7pm, 7 days a week.

If you are bringing in a pet you have found or that you can no longer keep, please note:

• Drop offs at the Eastside Shelter are still accepted from 9:30am to 6pm, 7 days a week.  311 will assist you outside of these hours to coordinate prompt pick up.

• Please drop off your healthy animal during normal hours of operation.  If your animal is injured, it is your obligation to get the required veterinary care for your pet. The city does not provide veterinary care for privately-owned pets by individuals.

• If your pet was recently adopted from AWD, please follow the instructions regarding specific emergency veterinary clinic locations to take your animal to.

• If the animal is not yours, injured or uninjured outside of normal working hours, call 311 and request that an Animal Control officer be dispatched to pick up the animal. Remain with the animal until the officer arrives, or take the animal to a veterinarian of your choice. Realize that you may be charged a fee by the veterinarian.
