QUICK FACTS

Overview:
The Keck Interferometer connects the two 10-meter Keck telescopes on top of Mauna Kea, on the island of Hawaii, as an infrared interferometer with a baseline of 85 meters.
Milestones:
  • March 2001 - First fringes obtained
  • 2002 - Shared risk science program begins
  • August 2004 - First fringes with KI nuller
  • August 2004 - 100:1 null achieved
  • Funding Source:
    NASA mission, part of Origins program
