View all the American Eagle Products

American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins are collector versions of the official United States Mint Platinum Bullion coins. The reverse design featured on the proof version is different from that found on the bullion version, and both proof and bullion platinum coins are available in the one ounce, one-half ounce, one-quarter ounce and one-tenth ounce sizes as well as a four-coin proof set, which contains one coin in each denomination. American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins have a limited mintage and are minted at the United States Mint at West Point bearing the "W" mint mark. American Eagle Platinum Proof Coins can be purchased directly from the United States Mint.

New Reverse Coin Design for 2008

Since its debut in 1997, the United States Mint's American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin has featured Lady Liberty on the obverse, a symbol of vigilance and resolute faithfulness to duty. Designed and sculpted by United States Mint Sculptor/Engraver John Mercanti, Lady Liberty again graces the obverse of the American Eagle Platinum Proof Coin in 2006, joined by the first of three new designs created to honor our Nation's three branches of government; the Legislative, Executive and Judicial.

The 2008 reverse features the third design in the series – representing the Judicial Branch. This design features Lady Justice, a classic symbol dating back to Greek and Roman times. In her right hand, the scales are suspended from one finger, representing the delicate balance of the law. In the other hand she holds the sword, signifying the power that is held by those making the decision. The bald eagle, our Nation’s symbol of power, courage and freedom, is featured watching over our firm foundation of democracy. The reverse design was created by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Master Designer Joel Iskowitz and engraved by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Charles Vickers.

In 2006 the reverse design honored the Legislative branch, 2007 the reverse design honored the honored the Executive branch.
