Goal: Develop measurement techniques and calibration standards for the characterization of optical fiber, optical fiber sources, and passive optical components.

Customer Base: Primarily optical communications and optical fiber sensors industries.

Metrology Transfer: Measurement calibration and traceability provided to customers through Standard Reference Materials (SRMs), Special Test services (NIST measurements of customer fibers and components), and publications.

Impact: The specifications of most of the optical fiber produced throughout the world are traceable to national standards through SRMs developed by the Group.
