Commerce Department Names Assistant U.S. District Attorney to Enforcement Post

Washington - - The U.S. Department of Commerce today appointed Lisa A. Prager, Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, to be Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Enforcement in the Bureau of Export Administration. Prager will serve as the highest ranking career employee in the Export Enforcement (EE) arm of the Bureau of Export Administration (BXA), fulfilling Secretary Norman Mineta's pledge to place highly qualified individuals in permanent, senior level, policy-making positions. Prager was selected from a group of exceptional candidates from within the executive branch of government.

"I am delighted to have someone of Ms. Prager's caliber as the new Deputy Assistant Secretary," said Amanda DeBusk, Assistant Secretary for Export Enforcement. "Lisa has the vision, leadership and experience to lead Export Enforcement. She is an extremely capable prosecutor, and the organization will benefit greatly from her insights into case development and her ability to work with prosecutors around the country."

Prager will oversee the administration of Export Enforcement's mission to detect, halt, investigate and help sanction violations of U.S. dual-use export control laws as well as administer the antiboycott provisions of the Export Administration Act.

Prager joins BXA after a distinguished career at the Justice Department. Most recently, Prager served in the Transnational/Major Crimes Section where she was responsible for overseeing the investigation, indictment and trial of export, terrorism and espionage cases. Also at the Justice Department, Prager served in the Tax Division where she was responsible for appellate litigation.

Prager graduated from Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1978 and from the Western New England College School of Law with a Juris Doctor magna cum laude in 1982.

Note

In April of 2002 the Bureau of Export Administration (BXA) changed its name to the Bureau of Industry and Security(BIS). For historical purposes we have not changed the references to BXA in the legacy documents found in the Archived Press and Public Information.
