Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Export Enforcement F. Amanda DeBusk has been selected by Women in Federal Law Enforcement, Inc. (WIFLE, INC.) to receive their First Honorable Mention for Outstanding Advocate for Women in Law Enforcement Award.
According to WIFLE, INC., "This award honors an individual who has made a substantial contribution having broad impact for women in law enforcement and who also acts as an advisor, advocate and leader in the continued support of women in law enforcement." The award will be presented to Assistant Secretary. DeBusk at a ceremony on August 3, 2000 in Washington, DC.
DeBusk was appointed assistant secretary for Export Enforcement by President Clinton and sworn-in on November 10, 1997. The office of Export Enforcement protects national security and foreign policy interests safeguarded by the Export Administration Act, the Export Administration Regulations and the antiboycott regulations. As assistant secretary, she oversees offices responsible for preventative enforcement, investigations and anitboycott matters. She supervises eight field offices located in the major exporting centers of the United States.
Prior to joining the Department of Commerce, DeBusk was a partner in the international trade department of the law firm of O'Melveny & Meyers, LLP. She received a B.A. from the University of Richmond and a J.D. from Harvard University.
In April of 2002 the Bureau of Export Administration (BXA) changed its name to the Bureau of Industry and Security(BIS). For historical purposes we have not changed the references to BXA in the legacy documents found in the Archived Press and Public Information.
