Spring Shredathon, May 9, 9:00am to 12:00pm
Join us at Sam’s Club parking lot located at 901 S. Grady Way for a document shredding event. Residents are invited to bring up to five boxes containing personal (non-business related) paper documents to be destroyed in a truck-mounted shredder. Boxes should be 12 to 15 inches deep x 10 inches high or bring the amount of paper a box that size would hold. Donations of canned goods will be accepted for Renton Food Bank.
Co-sponsored by City of Renton, Renton Police Department, Sam’s Club, and Iron Mountain.
Public Hearing May 11: City Council to Consider Proposed Benson Road Closure
The Renton City Council will host a public hearing May 11 at 7 p.m. at City Hall to consider a proposal to close Benson Road during construction of a new bridge over I-405. For more information click here or call the I-405 Renton Project Hotline: (425) 456-8585.
Storage capacity at Howard Hanson Dam temporarily restricted
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Seattle District, announces that storage capacity at Howard Hanson Dam will be temporarily restricted to safely continue the process of evaluating damage on the right abutment discovered following a recent high flood control pool at the dam. Read more

The city continues to monitor the recent outbreak of swine flu and plan for response and continuity of operations. This is also a good time for families, businesses and organizations to review and update their preparedness plans. 50-Hour Filmmaking Frenzy Returns to Renton; 2009 Registration Opens September 1
If you are an aspiring, ahead of the curve filmmaker, Renton, Washington, will be the place to be this October for the epic 50-hour Second Annual Renton FilmFrenzy. Details of the 2009 Frenzy were announced today and include a new sponsorship of the 2009 Seattle International Film Festival's (SIFF) FutureWave program. Lee Cummings from Renton was one of a select number of volunteers recognized by Governor Gregoire for her outstanding contributions as a volunteer. She has provided over 400 hours of service for Renton’s emergency management programs. Read More.

Uwajimaya, Inc. announced that it will open its fourth store in the City of Renton. The store will anchor Renton Village Shopping Center. Scheduled to open in late June, Uwajimaya Renton will have a full array of gifts, groceries and deli. Read more.

City of Renton employees to sacrifice pay and benefits
Mayor Denis Law announced that city employees have voted to sacrifice their pay and benefits in an effort to bridge a portion of the $6 million shortfall forecasted in the 2009 general fund budget, and to avoid layoffs and continue to maintain our commitment to the citizens of Renton. (Read More)

Cedar River Access Trail
Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is developing an access trail to the Cedar River upstream of I-405, across from Renton’s Cedar River Park. The trail will function as a public access to the Cedar River. Read More.
