American Citizen Services – in YOUR Neighborhood!

August 14, 2009  Need your passport renewed?  Have documents to be notarized? Want extra visa pages in your passport?  These services and more will be provided in Breda, Groningen and The Hague when staff from the U.S. Consulate General in Amsterdam take to the road and meet with American citizens throughout the Netherlands.  Recognizing that it can be difficult to get away from your daily life to visit the Consulate General, Consular Officer Daniel King and his staff will be visiting:

  • The Hague, September 5, 12 noon to 3 P.M.
  • Groningen, September 16, 4 to 7 P.M.
  • Breda, September 23, times to be determined

Send us an email at AmsterdamOutreach@state.gov to let us know you’ll be coming and what service you need. We will reply with instructions and directions to the location. More information can be found on our outreach page. (This e-mail address is strictly to register for an outreach event. Other mail sent to this address will not be processed.)

Welcome to American Citizen Services

Nearly 40,000 American citizens live and work in The Netherlands.  Many more visit every year.  The Department of State, through its Consulate General in Amsterdam, provides a range of routine and emergency services for Americans who live in The Netherlands or who are just visiting.

The American, or U.S. Citizen Services (ACS) Unit’s assistance includes but is not limited to, Passport services, Notary services, and Consular Reports of Births Abroad. Some passport services are available by mail, other services require a visit to the Consulate General in Amsterdam. Visits require you to set up an appointment.  This way time will be reserved for you and our staff can help you more efficiently. Below you will find how to set up such an appointment. The Consulate General also assists in emergencies, including deaths, arrests and crisis situations.

Our services are available by appointment or by mail

All of our American citizen  services requiring your presence at the Consulate, are available by appointment only. Appointment slots will be scheduled daily from 8:30 AM until 11:30 AM.  For details on how to make an appointment, please click here. You will find a link to the appointment website in each service's step-by-step instruction.

Note however, that we also provide services by mail. Check out our passport services by mail pages.

The information on this website is designed to help you understand the services we can offer and to provide some useful information which may help you during your stay, be it long or short, in The Netherlands.

We urge you to register with us if you will be traveling or living in The Netherlands so we can better serve you, especially in the case of an emergency or disaster.

The ACS Unit will not be able to answer questions about visas.
