The OAS Works to Restore Democracy in Honduras

The Organization of American States (OAS) adopted a resolution strongly condemning the coup d'Etat in Honduras and demanded the immediate and unconditional return of President José Manuel Zelaya Rosales to his constitutional duties. The member states unanimously made the decision to invoke Article 21 of the Inter-American Democratic Charter suspending the Central American country from active participation in the hemispheric body. Notwithstanding the suspension, the Organization maintains diplomatic initiatives to restore democracy in Honduras.
