US Airways Flight Crashes in Hudson River

Just minutes after taking off from New York's La Guardia Airport en route to Charlotte, North Carolina, a US Airways jet carrying about 150 passengers and 5 crew members plunged into the frigid Hudson River. The pilot reported engine trouble shortly before the plane went down, and there has been speculation that the plane may have hit a flock of birds which disabled one or more of the engines. Ferries and other boats converged immediately on the scene to help with the rescue effort. The plane stayed partially afloat during the rescue, and initial reports suggest that everyone made it off the plane alive. More on the subject...
