ATSDR and TDH will hold a community meeting about the public health response for the Kingston Coal Ash Release

Atlanta - The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) will hold a community meeting June 11 about the public health response for   the Kingston coal ash release.  ATSDR and TDH are conducting a public health assessment (PHA) to evaluate environmental data from a community public health perspective. The PHA will include the conclusions of this review and recommendations.

Capt. William Cibulas, Ph.D., ATSDR Director of the Division of Health Assessment and Consultation (DHAC), staff from ATSDR and TDH officials will discuss the agency's PHA process.  The results of the PHA will be available in late 2009.   
 
The meeting is open to the public. It will be held on Thursday June 11, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Roane State Community College, O'Brien Building, Room 101, 276 Patton Lane, Harriman, TN. Presentations will begin at 6 p.m., followed by time for discussion with representatives from ATSDR and TDH.  
 
A media availability session will be held prior to the meeting from 4:30p.m. to 5:00p.m. at the same location.
