Illinois Beach State Park Asbestos Levels Not Expected to Harm Public Health

(Zion, Illinois) - Recreational use of Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park (IBSP) is not expected to harm people's health, says the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR). Both ATSDR and the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommend that the Illinois Department of Natural Resources continue to conduct regular beach sweeps and advise the public of the presence of asbestos-containing material. If asbestos-containing materials are found, IBSP visitors should report them to beach staff and should not attempt to remove the material or otherwise disturb it.

Public Comments Sought on Public Health Assessment on the Former Chanute Air Force Base

Community Meeting Scheduled for Oil Field Site, Bridgeport, IL

(Lawrence County, Bridgeport, Illinois) - The Agency for Toxic Substance and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) will host a public meeting in Bridgeport on Tuesday, April 18, to gather community health concerns related to the Lawrence Oil Field in Bridgeport, Ill., operated by PennTex Resources. The meeting will be held at the Red Hill High School cafeteria at 908 Church St., in Bridgeport from 7 to 9 p.m.
