Commodity Market

Commodity Costs and Returns has estimates of annual production costs and returns for major field crops and livestock for the United States and major production regions.

Outlook Reports published regularly, provide data and analysis on major commodity markets and trade, and special reports address timely topics. The annual reports also contain historical data.

World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates published monthly, provides the most current USDA forecasts of U.S. and world supply and use of major grains, soybeans and soybean products, and cotton; prices of some commodities; and U.S. supply and use of sugar and livestock products.

Background Statistics on U.S. Beef and Cattle Industry cover information on production, prices, and trade on a single web page for use by journalists and others looking for perspective on the markets.

Background Statistics on the U.S. Broiler Industry cover information on production, prices, receipts, and trade on a single web page for use by journalists and others looking for perspective on the markets. Broilers (chickens under 13 weeks old) constitute virtually all commercial chicken production.

Background Statistics on the U.S. Soybean Industry cover acreage, production, exports, and receipts, as a reference for journalists and others. Includes links to other resources.


Farm Sector

Farm Income Forecasts provide perspective on farm sector economic performance and incorporate data related to production and marketing of commodities, expenditures for inputs, and the role of government payment programs.

Farm Program Acres allows users to create and customize maps and tables displaying county-level planted and farm program acreage. Users can download and manipulate data to illustrate the share of commodity base acreage planted to nine major program crops (corn, grain sorghum, barley, oats, wheat, rice, cotton, peanuts, and oilseeds).

U.S. and State Farm Income Data are available via drop-down menus and in worksheet formats, and include the farm business net value added, net cash income, cash receipts, government payments, production expenses, and household income.

Farm Business and Household Survey Data provides information from the annual Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS)—USDA’s primary source of information on the financial condition, production practices, resource use, and the economic well-being of America's farm households.

Agricultural Outlook: Statistical Indicators has data on individual commodities, the general economy, agricultural trade, farm income and expenses, farm prices, food prices and expenditures, and other statistical indicators of the food and agriculture system.


Food Consumption

The Food Consumption Data System tracks historical national aggregate consumption (per capita) of several hundred basic commodities.


Forecasts

Long-Term Agricultural Baseline Projections provides 10-year projections (2005-14) of the food and agriculture sector, used to forecast farm program costs, to prepare the President's budget, and to analyze impacts of potential policy changes on U.S. agriculture.


Rural America

Profiles of America is an interactive tool enabling the creation and manipulation of maps, tables, and charts that display demographic trends and other indicators of the economic well-being of rural and urban communities.

Rural Indicators Map Machine is an Internet-based mapping utility that provides a visualization of indicators for rural areas available from ERS and other government agencies. Indicators include population change, unemployment rates, and median household income.


State Summaries

State Fact Sheets provide information on population, employment, income, farm characteristics, and farm financial indicators for each state in the United States.


Trade

FATUS (Foreign Agricultural Trade of the United States) data cover U.S. exports and imports by country, commodity, and Customs District; quantity and value; monthly and annually for all countries trading with the United States.


Data From Other Federal Agencies

Agricultural Research Service (ARS) conducts continuing surveys to monitor the food consumption and related behavior of the U.S. population.

Bureau of Labor Statistics is the principal fact-finding agency for the Federal Government in the broad field of labor economics and statistics, including consumer expenditures, prices, and living conditions, and projections on economic growth.

Bureau of Economic Analysis provides detailed data on economic activity for the Nation, regions, States, metropolitan areas, and counties. Its national economic program features the estimates of gross domestic product (GDP).

 

Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) collects statistics on world agricultural production and world agricultural trade for a broad range of commodities.

National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) collects, summarizes, analyzes, and publishes agricultural production and marketing data.

U.S. Census Bureau provides quality data about the nation's people and economy.
