NMFS Reallocates Pacific Cod from Vessels Using Jig Gear to Catcher Vessels Less than 60 Feet Length Overall Using Hook-and-Line Gear or Pot Gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is reallocating 400 metric tons of Pacific cod from vessels using jig gear to catcher vessels less than 60 feet (18.3 meters) length overall (LOA) using hook-and-line or pot gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area according to Robert D. Mecum, Acting Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.
This action is necessary to allow the B season apportionment of the 2009 total allowable catch of Pacific cod to be harvested and is issued pursuant to 50 CFR 679.20(a)(7)(iii)(A). This action does not imply any change in the status of the fisheries. This information bulletin only provides notice of a regulatory change.
