Training Centers

The following state and privately run organizations provide training for technicians and weatherization service providers that work in almost 1000 local weatherization agencies around the country.   • DOE Denver Region Weatherization Assistance Center

    Montana State University Extension Service houses a Web site that features equipment reviews, tips, and funding opportunities for weatherization professionals in the 12-state Denver DOE Region.

  • Indiana Community Action Association

    Indiana Community Action Association offers introductory and advanced classes on weatherization and associated building energy science at its 10,000 square foot training facility in Indianapolis.

  • Kansas Building Science Institute

    Located in Manhattan, Kansas, this training center offers classes for weatherization technicians and inspectors and home energy raters.

  • Ohio Weatherization Training Center

    This center provides hands-on training for field staff as well as weatherization program administrators in Ohio and other states. Located in Athens, the center has operated since 1980 and is run by the Corporation for Ohio Appalachian Development.

  • PG&E Stockton Energy Training Center

    California's Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) provides courses and seminars for contractors, builders, and other residential energy service providers, including weatherization. Courses take place in Stockton and throughout California.

  • Pennsylvania College of Technology Weatherization Training Center

    The college, which is located in Williamsport, offers certificates of completion for courses completed and for competency in weatherization and building energy science.

  • Virginia's New River Center for Energy Research and Training

    Located in Christiansburg, Virginia, near Roanoke, this center includes fully equipped heating and cooling systems and pressure diagnostics laboratories. NCERT also has an innovative training tool called The House of Pressure that demonstrates air flow dynamics to energy technicians.

  • Worcester Community Action Council

    Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, the Worcester Community Action Council operates an energy training program to address issues of energy conservation and increase local employment in energy sciences.
