Create the ultimate landscape with King County's free naturescaping workshop, native plant salvage

Want a low-maintenance yard that is not only beautiful but environmentally friendly, too? This December, King County teams up with Seattle Public Utilities to host two free naturescaping workshops and native plant salvages.

Workshop attendees will learn how to design a manageable landscape for home lawns that will reduce the amount of time and energy needed to spend on yard work. Tips will be provided on how to attract birds and other wildlife by using native plants, plus proven methods for effectively battling invasive weeds.

Choose one of the following evening naturescaping workshops to attend:

• Dec. 5 from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Viewlands Elementary School, 10525 3rd Avenue NW in Seattle; or

• Dec. 6 from 6:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Beaver Lake Lodge, 25101 SE 24th Street in Sammamish.

Workshop attendees will be invited to participate in a native plant salvage, Dec. 9, at a site scheduled for development. Participants can dig up native plants for “naturescaping” projects at home. Directions to the site will be provided at the workshop.
