Analyzing TEDS Using the New Graphing Features of the Online Data Analysis System (DAS)

The DASIS Report:  Analyzing TEDS Using the New Graphing Features of the Online Data Analysis System (DAS)

SAMHSA's Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS) public use files are available from SAMHSA's Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) for online data analysis.  The combined file for 1992-2002 TEDS files is now available from SAMHDA. This TEDS file contains 18.6 million records and is useful for analyzing geographic comparisons as well as changes over time in treatment admissions and primary drugs of abuse.

This report uses the combined 1992-2002 TEDS file to demonstrate the new graphics capability of the SAMHDA online data analysis system. It presents step by step instructions to analyze substance abuse treatment admissions involving heroin by year and census region as an example. Using SAMHSA's online data analysis system, you can get percentages of substance abuse treatment admissions in each region for all years combined, trends from 1992 to 2002,  statistical testing, and graphs of the results.

For further information on using the SAMHDA with other data systems from SAMHSA's Office of Applied Studies, go to SAMHSA's data analysis archives (SAMHDA)

The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Data Archive (SAMHDA) online data analysis system is provided by the Office of Applied Studies within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).  In addition to the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS), SAMHDA contains over 80 studies on substance abuse that are available for online data analysis.

This short report, The DASIS Report:  Analyzing TEDS Using the New Graphing Features of the Online Data Analysis System (DAS), is based on the Drug and Alcohol Services Information System (DASIS), the primary source of national data on substance abuse treatment.  DASIS is conducted by the Office of Applied Studies (OAS) in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
