Marine Division

The Marine Division, created in 2008, manages two passenger-only water taxi routes for the King County Ferry District:

  • The West Seattle/Downtown Seattle route is a seasonal service that will operate from April through October in 2009. The water taxi makes trips across Elliott Bay beginning at approximately 7 a.m. and continuing into the evening. The Marine Division currently contracts with Argosy Cruises to operate this route. In 2010, the Marine Division will assume operations and will provide year-round service.

Currently this service is operated  by Washington State Ferries through a service contract. The King County Marine Division will assume operations in September 2009.

The Ferry District is a general purpose government created to expand transportation options through water taxi services. In addition to the two current routes described above, the Ferry District is planning five demonstration routes across Lake Washington and Puget Sound. Visit the King County Ferry District Web page to learn more about the Ferry District's future plans and to subscribe to the e-newsletter.
